“Dear Contributor,
We thank you for the opportunity to read the work you submitted. We regret that we cannot accept it for our next issue and hope that you will find a suitable publisher. The Editors.”

Standard stuff. But this was printed on a slip of paper measuring 1.75 x 5.5 inches, almost certainly the smallest rejection slip I have ever received. To top it off, judging by the wavy edges, it looks like the editor might have assigned his 3-year-old to cut the slip off of a larger sheet (they must be able to get 10 of these suckers on a single page). I understand the need to economize, but I’m tired of being treated this way. My SASE also included a contest announcement from this journal. How inclined do they think I am to spend $15 on a magazine that thinks this little of its contributors?
