>Othello

>
Friday night I saw Othello at the American Shakespeare Center. The Blackfriars Playhouse was nearly full for the opening of this production (the 4th piece in the Summer/Fall repertoire)–although about half of the house was made up of Mary Baldwin College students, making the vibe a little different than normal. In any case, the cast did an excellent job, one for which I did not long resist the standing ovation when all the blood was spilled. James Keegan was outstanding as Iago and it was nice to see James’s wife, Anne, whom I met at Bread Loaf. If you’re in the neighborhood between now and December, this one is definitely worth seeing.
