>Press 53 Contest

>The exciting still-new small press, Press 53 is holding an expansive contest.

I tried to copy the guidelines to post here but it looked strange, so you should just go to the site to check them out. What’s amazing is that there are eight categories: Poetry, Flash Fiction, Short-Short Fiction, Genre Fiction, Short Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Novella, and Young Writers. And, brilliantly, the deadlines for all these categories are staggered: 8/31/07 for Poetry, 9/30/07 for Flash, 10/31/07 for Short-Shorts, 11/30/07 for Genre (I guess that’s to coincide with Halloween, always a good Genre setting); 12/31/07 for Short Fiction; 1/31/2008 for CNF; 2/28/2008 for Novella (it’s a leap year, though; shouldn’t that be 2/29?); 3/31/2008 for Young Writers.

They’ve got a great lineup of judges and winners will be announced on May 31, 2008, at Press 53 and all the winners will be published in Fall 2008 by Press 53 in an anthology. There are no monetary prizes — it’s a small press, and there’s not a lot of cash to throw around — but they put together a nice book and that’s a heckuva prize. I’ll almost certainly be entering in a couple of categories.
