>Rebecca McClanahan–A Reading

>
This has been a big week for readings. Today, Rebecca McClanahan winner of the Glasgow Prize from Shenandoah, did a reading at Washington & Lee University. Rebecca, whom I know from my days in the MFA Program at Queens University of Charlotte, where she teaches both Poetry and Creative Non-Fiction, read 3 wonderful poems and part of a long essay called “Bookmarks.” I was disappointed to discover that Riddle Song, to book for which she won the prize, did not include this essay, because it was amazing.

In his introduction of Rebecca, Rod Smith, Editor of Shenandoah did not mention her essay in the recent issue of his magazine, but did cite “Back”, which is in the Fall 2005 issue of The Gettysburg Review, describing it as a masterpiece. Here’s an interview.
